Kaipara is a district north of Auckland, located in the rolling hills north of the Kaipara Harbour. The region is most famous for the Kaurie timber industry, which was at it’s peak in 1800’s and ended in the 1950’s.

A real feature for me along the Kaipara coast highway is Gibbs Farm, which contains the largest outdoor sculpture collection in New Zealand. It is a private collection, owned by New Zealand businessman Alan Gibbs, that is only open to the public several times a year. Bookings are essential, and as we had not booked when we visited the region the best I could do was take some pics from the side of the road.

Some of the other features of the region are Baylys Beach and Pahi, both recorded on this blog.
