Baylys Beach is the quintessential North Island unspoiled beach. It is situated on the north western Kaipara coast, about two and a half hours from Auckland. The beach is famous for it’s multi coloured baches (the kiwi term for holiday homes), which litter the hills that over look the water.
Interestingly, the Kaipara coastline is a graveyard for ships with 113 shipwrecks recorded, but locals know of 153 wreck sites. The first shipwreck was the Aurora, a fully rigged, 550 tonne ship and the last was the yacht Aosky in June 1994. Many people spend their spare time looking for undiscovered wrecks.
I love the rugged beauty of the beach and the coastline. We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon on the beach with our dog. The perfect spot for a summer weekend getaway.
