Riccarton is a suburb due west of Christchurch city, separated from the city by Hagley Park. Given it’s proximity to the University of Cantebury Riccarton is home to many students and also boasts great shopping strips and a diverse selection of restaurants and cafe’s.
Riccarton is also home to one of New Zealands most unique heritage homes. Riccarton house is set on a 12km reserve of gardens and parklands, perfectly set on the banks of the Avon river, just 3.5kms from Christchurch city. It is well worth exploring the gardens and stopping for morning or afternoon tea. The site also hosts a regular Saturday morning farmers market, from 9am -1pm which is great to pick up a coffee and something freshly baked to go with it.
