Pakiri, for me, is a perfect unspoiled gem on the coast north of Auckland. Apart from being a Dulux colour, the reason I wanted to visit the area was after seeing it a house being built in the area on Grand Designs New Zealand. It has the perfect mix of stunning picturesque green hills that roll right down to the blue ocean. If it’s not coming across clear enough, I loved this area!!
The town itself has little to offer, you could literally drive through it without noticing. And, you do have to brave an unsealed stretch of road to get there, but I guarantee it is worth it.
Pakiri beach is stunning. White sand, blue water and views out to Little Barrier Island, it is the perfect summer getaway. I would highly recommend also driving around the countryside to take in the views of the region that the hilly terrain offers. I plan on finding a house to rent for a weekend and come back very soon.
A few kilometers away is the town of Leigh. Here you will find a small township with a great little cafe, Leigh Bar & Eatery, that serves good coffee and, the absolute highlight for me, traditional egg & bacon butties!! I recommend your butty served with chips and enjoyed overlooking the ocean – which is exactly what we did!!
