When visiting the New Plymouth region, Mt Taranaki pretty much dominates the entire landscape. In fact, I would have to say that this is one of the only places I have ever visited where your eyes are drawn almost exclusively to the mountain range instead of the coastline.

I highly recommend taking the time to drive around the mountain range, stopping off to see the mountain from different vantage points. Midhirst is one of those places that offer stunning views of Taranaki with rolling green fields in front. While there were a few clouds obscuring our view, we were teased with glimpses of the summit as we travelled around the mountain.

The trip around the mountain takes about 3.5 hours to do it justice. We begun by having breakfast in New Plymouth (at a café called Chaos) before heading off. There are many towns littered around the mountain, many of which have cafés and coffee shops.

The Team at Dulux also loved this spot, as Midhirst has inspired 2 variants of the colour.
