Mission Bay & Rangitoto

Mission Bay is a very popular beach in East Auckland. Conveniently located just a few kilometres from Auckland CBD makes Mission Bay very popular in summer months. There is a great stretch of bars and restaurants along the foreshore.

Mission Bay also offers stunning views of Rangitoto Island. Rangitoto is a volcanic island, the largest of the 50 that make up the Auckland Volcanic field. It is separated from the mainland by the Rangitoto channel. Rangitoto is Maori for ‘Bloody Sky’, which is the inspiration for the red of Dulux Rangitoto.

I have not done this, however, you can get a ferry to the island and explore by following the walking tracks. You can even climb to the top of the volcano. This is something I am very keen to do.

The stunning pictures of Mission Bay & Rangitoto were taken by a friend who lived in Mission Bay for 2 years. You can check out more of his work an his facebook page;
